Consider with Melissa Mitchell

Consider with Melissa Mitchell
1   What makes you feel safe?

  1   My father’s voice.

2   What fills your heart up?

2   Spending time in my garden in Nashville and then visiting my twin sister's garden in Upstate New York. My garden is full of cut flowers, fruits, and vegetables. My partner and I turn it over every year, constantly experimenting and learning. My sister's is more focused on creating a forever palette, which I adore. I like having the opportunity to experience both in the summer months.

3   Describe a memory that makes you feel joy.

3   Being a little girl and diving into the ocean in Sagaponack with my twin sister. We were fearless. Fearlessness is an emotion I am forever chasing, trying to tap back into.

4   What is a meaningful keepsake you own?

4   My grandfather gifted my sister and I gold nameplate necklaces when we were born. As a twin, it certainly serves a purpose, but I've also just grown so fond of having this piece. It feels like a part of me. As we grew up, he gave us name rings, earrings, and jewelry boxes when we graduated high school. I barely take them off and chuckle when I find myself wearing them all together.  Yes, I'm filling the trope of being "from long island.”

5   What makes you feel self-conscious?

5   Sharing the poetry I write can make me feel self-conscious and vulnerable... but at the same time, it's an adrenaline rush that I am never disappointed with.
