Consider with Samantha Romero

Consider with Samantha Romero
1   What are your simplest pleasures?

1   Sourcing furniture for Fig & Oak, particularly the process of restoring and revitalizing these pieces so they can be cherished in a new home, brings me immense joy. I find this practice to be deeply fulfilling, as each project presents its own unique challenges and facilitates endless learning opportunities.

2   What does timelessness mean to you?

2   When I think of timelessness in relation to furniture, I focus on the materials used and the durability of each piece. Vintage home decor, in particular, represents an investment; these pieces should withstand the test of time while also conveying a narrative. Each item tells a story, reflecting its era and craftsmanship, which adds depth and character to any living space.

3   What moves and inspires you most?

3   Exploring the intersections between art and design. Some of my favorite Los Angeles galleries that inspire me are Marta Gallery, Wolford House, Seventh House Gallery, Francis Gallery, and the MAK Center.

4   Is there anything you currently collect and why?

4   I recently discovered that the meaning of my maiden last name is “of the sea.” I am drawn to seashell motifs. Whether it’s a seashell sconce or a lucite shell phone from the 1970s, I often find myself attracted to their natural iridescent quality.

5   What are you most thankful for?

5   I’m thankful to be able to share my passion with others. There’s an underlying thread among my clients: they all appreciate beautiful things, whether that appreciation translates into art, design, or furniture. It’s a beautiful thing to find a community that values the time and effort it takes to source each and every piece.
